Ukraine claims shooting down 141 Russian drones and missiles, attacks damage Kyiv infrastructure

Ukraine announced that it had shot down 141 Russian UAVs and hybrid missiles, adding that the attack damaged many structures in the capital Kiev.

The Russian Ministry of Defense today announced that it continues to carry out "focused attacks on logistics facilities and naval vehicles supporting the activities of the Ukrainian army", saying it used high-precision air-launched weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for this operation.

Published video shows the Geran-4 "Siker" suicide UAV crashing into warehouses in the cities of Vyshneve and Brovary near the capital Kiev, leading to large fires.

The targets mentioned by the Russian Ministry of Defense include the Eridon logistics center and FM Logistics Dnipro in Kiev province, said to be a place to store and distribute military supplies and UAV components to the Ukrainian army, a ship carrying "military hardware" anchored in Chernomorsk port, a dry cargo ship "carrying weapons and ammunition" on the Black Sea and many warehouses and goods distribution hubs in Odessa province.

Reuters previously quoted witnesses as saying loud explosions rocked the center of the capital Kiev early this morning, marking the 7th consecutive day Kiev was targeted.

According to local officials, this attack injured 11 people and damaged a 6-story apartment building and a medical facility in Shevchenkivsky district. Holosiivsky district also recorded a fire at an "educational institution".

Ukrainian Education Minister Andrii Butenko said that Russia hit Kiev National University of Food Technology. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the incident happened during class time and forced 160 students to go to the underground shelter, no one was injured.

Ukraine's Air Force Command said Russia attacked the country with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, two Kh-59/69 tactical cruise missiles, along with 174 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of all types and UAV Banderol hybrid missiles. The main direction of attack is Kiev and Odessa provinces.

"Air defense units shot down 141 targets, including 138 UAVs and three Banderols. Russian missiles and UAVs hit 16 locations, debris fell in 4 areas. Some enemy assets did not reach the target, we are verifying the information," the agency said.

Ukrainian officials did not mention the logistics facilities targeted by Russia.

The raid took place while Ukraine faced a shortage of many types of interceptor weapons and air-to-air missiles for fighters. Meanwhile, Russia increased its launch of ballistic missiles against Ukraine when the enemy had almost no ability to defend against these weapons.

President Vladimir Putin said on September 1 that Russia was winning the conflict with Ukraine and ordered the military to prepare a "large-scale raid campaign".

He emphasized that Moscow supports negotiations to end the war instead of just freezing the conflict, reiterating that Russia is ready to dialogue with President Donald Trump's special envoy. "If someone makes or can make a practical contribution to this process, we absolutely welcome it. The only thing we want to avoid is a long process without results," President Putin said.
