An elderly couple is found decapitated in their home in Italy and their son is detained

An elderly couple has been found dead in their home in Mirandola, a town in the Italian province of Modena. Both bodies had decapitations, according to the first known data of the double crime. The couple's son has been detained after being questioned overnight by investigators.

The victims are Pietro Ferdinando Casari, 82, and Vincenza Giannini, 74. The couple lived in a country house located on Imperiale Street, on the outskirts of the town. At the moment, no further details have been released about what happened inside the house or who alerted the security forces of the discovery.

Police and Carabinieri agents, firefighters and health personnel went to the scene, where they found a particularly macabre scene. The event has shocked the residents of Mirandola.
