Accident in Brandenburg: Car crashes into mopeds while overtaking - four dead

Four people were killed in a head-on collision between a car and three mopeds in Brandenburg. The accident happened in the evening near Biesenthal in the Barnim district, the police said. Accordingly, the driver wanted to overtake several vehicles - and collided with three of four oncoming mopeds. The car then caught fire.

According to the police, the three drivers of the mopeds and a female passenger suffered such serious injuries in the collision that they died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the fourth moped was able to avoid the car and was uninjured. The driver was taken to hospital with injuries. The accident site is about 40 minutes' drive northeast of Berlin's Alexanderplatz.

Relatives at the scene of the accident

Emergency chaplains and after-operation teams look after relatives of those who were fatally injured, some of whom appeared at the scene of the accident, as well as emergency services. The roadway on State Road 200 was completely closed for rescue operations and the accident investigation.

The police initially did not provide any information about the age of those involved in the accident. The identification of the dead is still ongoing, a police spokesman said when asked shortly before midnight. “There will be no information about this until tomorrow morning.”

The fatal crash happened around 7:40 p.m. between Biesenthal and Wullwinkel. Emergency services, fire brigade and police rushed to the scene of the accident. It was a particularly difficult mission for everyone, said the spokesman.
