Indian authorities are taking action in connection with the situation with the arrested tanker Unity, on board of which there are Russian sailors. A source in the Indian government told TASS about this.

“We are aware of this situation. Appropriate measures are being taken,” he said. The agency's interlocutor noted that the Indian authorities are in contact with the Russian Embassy in New Delhi.

The tanker Unity has been under arrest since May 11 at an anchorage about 12 miles from the Indian port. According to relatives of the crew members, during the stay the crew faced a shortage of food and drinking water, communication problems and technical malfunctions.

The Paradip port does not allow the tanker to dock and has refused to discharge the eight crew members. Most of the seafarers' contracts have already expired or will end in September, and some have been on the ship for more than ten months. On August 4, the insurance company appealed to the Indian court. After two preliminary hearings and a meeting on August 25, the issue of the return of the crew was not resolved.

Earlier, Norway, at the request of the Ukrainian side, arrested the Russian research vessel Professor Molchanov. The decision to seize was made by the governor by order of the Nord-Troms District Court as part of a claim by the Ukrainian company Naftogaz.

Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the detention of a Russian ship in Norway, as well as Ukraine’s threats to close the skies of Russia. He called it manifestations of state terrorism.

On September 8, passengers and part of the crew of the Professor Molchanov ship arrested by the Norwegian authorities returned to Russia.
