Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Hilmi Çelik: The Underlying Cause of Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections Needs to be Investigated

Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Hilmi Çelik stated that especially recurrent urinary tract infections should not be neglected and drew attention to the importance of correct diagnosis and treatment.

Stating that symptoms such as burning during urination and frequent urination are generally considered as direct infection in the society, Op. Dr. Hilmi Çelik stated that similar complaints can be seen in different urological problems.

Çelik said, "It is not right for a person to self-administer antibiotics when complaints such as burning during urination, frequent urination, or a change in urine color and odor occur. First of all, the cause of the complaint must be determined."

WHY DOES INFECTION RETURN?

Stating that some people may have a urinary tract infection more than once a year, Çelik said that the underlying causes of recurrent infections should be investigated.

Presence of stones in the kidney and bladder, incomplete emptying of urine in the bladder, some prostate problems, structural problems in the urinary tract and hygiene habits may be among the reasons for recurring complaints.

Pointing out that recurrent urinary tract infections, especially in men, should be evaluated in more detail, Çelik said, "In recurrent infections, it is necessary not only to eliminate the current complaint, but also to reveal why the infection recurs."

WATER CONSUMPTION AND TOILET HABITS ARE IMPORTANT

Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Hilmi Çelik stated that consuming enough fluids in daily life and not retaining urine for a long time is important for urinary system health, and said that people should consume enough water in accordance with their own health conditions.

Dr. Çelik also emphasized that antibiotics should not be used without a doctor's recommendation and stated that incorrect or unnecessary use of antibiotics can make treatment difficult.

BE CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE BACK PAIN AND FEVER

Dr. states that if urinary tract complaints are accompanied by fever, chills, pain in the flank or waist area, nausea-vomiting, or blood in the urine, it is necessary to consult a health institution. Çelik warned that infections could progress to the kidneys.
