A 35-year-old Italian citizen, whose details have not yet been released, was stabbed to death in Vienna following a violent argument. The episode occurred in the residential neighborhood of Meidling, where the argument between the victim and a 51-year-old man of Spanish origins degenerated inside a house.
According to what was reconstructed by the Viennese police, the Italian was hit by several blows but, despite his serious injuries, he managed to escape into the street, chased by the attacker, before collapsing at the intersection between Krichbaumgasse and Bendlgasse. Despite the timely intervention of the rescuers and the resuscitation attempts carried out on the spot, there was nothing that could be done for the 35-year-old: he died shortly afterwards due to a deep wound.
The arrest of the suspect
The intervention of the Austrian police forces made it possible to quickly identify and arrest the alleged perpetrator. The man, a 51-year-old who appeared in a strong state of agitation and presumably under the influence of alcohol, had evident traces of blood on his clothing. After an initial phase in which he was contradictory during the initial investigations, the suspect confessed to the attack during the interrogation.
The murder weapon
The testimonies collected on site also directed investigators to the possible murder weapon. In fact, some passers-by reported seeing the 51-year-old get rid of an object during the chase. Subsequent searches made it possible to recover the handle of a knife nearby, believed to be the weapon used in the crime.
Investigations into the motive
The investigators in the Austrian capital maintain the utmost confidentiality about the reasons behind the argument and the nature of the relationships between the two men, elements which will be clarified as the investigation continues. At the moment the authorities have not yet released the details of the Italian victim, while technical investigations continue to accurately reconstruct the phases of the fight inside the apartment.
