Heavy rains and floods in Vietnam: Thousands of houses flooded

Authorities reported that heavy rains in the northern and north-central regions of Vietnam this week caused flooding, and the amount of rainfall in some areas exceeded 50 centimeters.

Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An regions were among the regions that suffered the most losses in rice and other crops due to floods.

It was reported that there were disruptions in transportation due to the flood, more than 2 thousand houses were submerged, rice and other crops were damaged, and thousands of cattle, sheep and poultry perished.

Authorities in Thanh Hoa advised students to stay at home because transportation to school had become dangerous, state media reported.

Heavy rains also affected the capital Hanoi

On the other hand, it was reported that many streets in the capital Hanoi were flooded, traffic disruptions occurred, and it became difficult for citizens to go to work and take their children to school.

Additionally, due to widespread flooding in Hanoi, many high schools and universities closed in the afternoon or switched to online classes.

In the southwestern suburbs of Hanoi, the waters of the Bui River rose to a level that could submerge some houses. Thereupon, the authorities assigned hundreds of soldiers to help move residents' belongings to higher places.

Meteorologists state that the rains will continue until September 21.
