Violence against women: Yaël Braun-Pivet confident in the adoption of the “comprehensive” law

The President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, said Thursday that she was “confident” in the adoption by the National Assembly of the so-called “comprehensive” law against sexual violence against women and children, which should arrive on October 1 in the hemicycle.

“I am confident, parliamentarians are currently working on this law in a special committee,” declared the Macronist leader on France 2. “It will be necessary that after the parliamentary shuttle is done, the Senate will include this text,” she recalled.

“But in any case we, in the National Assembly, (...) we have 243 – almost the absolute majority – signatures of parliamentarians who endorse the bill from all sides,” she said. “There won’t be a problem,” she insisted.

The objective is to cover the entire chain of violence

Yaël Braun-Pivet at the same time recalled his wish to see the 2027 draft budget adopted via a 49.3 of the government - which allows adoption without a vote - in order to avoid that "discussions get bogged down for months and months and we end up in December having to issue orders". On this subject, she said she was concerned “not to waste time”, because “we have some texts which are important and which I would like us to examine”.

“If we devote the entire period until December to budgetary discussions, that means that we are not going to talk about housing, that we are not going to talk about transport, that we are not going to talk about higher education, that we are perhaps not going to go through with the comprehensive law on violence against women,” she warned.
