Volkswagen is planning a huge recall for around four million vehicles

Wolfsburg. The world's second largest car company Volkswagen is facing one of the largest recalls in its recent history. Because of a possible problem with the steering, the Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer has to ask around four million vehicles to the workshops across the group, according to Handelsblatt information.

Contrary to what was previously known, not only models from the core brands Volkswagen and Audi are affected, but also vehicles from Skoda and Seat.

According to information from the Federal Motor Transport Authority, around 2.16 million vehicles worldwide are made by the Volkswagen brand. At Skoda there are more than a million vehicles, at Audi around 700,000 and at Seat around 200,000 vehicles, according to informed circles. This means that the campaign is on a scale that the company has not experienced since the diesel scandal around ten years ago. “It will be expensive,” says an insider familiar with the process.

The trigger is a screw connection on the steering. “During internal quality checks, it was discovered that certain vehicles from various Volkswagen brand series may have a steering problem,” said a Volkswagen spokesman upon request.
