Complete closure of the A42 at the Herne motorway junction before the bridge opens

Shortly before the official opening of the four new bridges at the Herne motorway junction, there will be another full closure due to construction. The A42 will be completely closed in both directions between Herne-Baukau and Herne-Crange this evening at 10 p.m., as the motorway company announced. Diversions run via the A2/A3 and A45 motorways.

The closure lasts until Tuesday morning (September 29th). It should be lifted in the early morning hours in the direction of Oberhausen and by 11 a.m. at the latest in the opposite direction. The newly built bridges are also scheduled to officially go into operation on Tuesday. Thanks to a prefabricated rapid construction method, they were built in just one and a half years with traffic flowing - according to the motorway company, a "record-breaking" construction speed.

The Autobahns 42 and 43 meet at the Herne intersection. The A43 is one of the most important north-south connections in the Ruhr area. However, the motorway was never planned for the current traffic load of 90,000 vehicles per day. That is why it is being expanded to six lanes over 28 kilometers between Marl and Witten. Autobahn GmbH speaks of one of the largest trunk road projects in North Rhine-Westphalia.
