Delta Air Lines flight DL251 makes emergency landing in Porto after detecting smoke in the cabin

A plane from the American company Delta Air Lines that was covering the route between Barcelona (Spain) and Boston (United States) this Sunday made an emergency landing at the Porto airport, in northern Portugal, after smoke was detected in the cabin.

The device, an Airbus A330-300 that operated flight DL251, landed without incident at the Francisco Sá Carneiro airport, according to Portuguese media.

There were 296 passengers on board and some of them required medical assistance after landing.

Public television RTP indicated that some passengers were treated for smoke inhalation and stated that a fire did not break out on the plane. At the moment the origin of the smoke detected in the cabin is unknown.

The emergency device mobilized more than 60 firefighters and other rescue services to the Porto airport, while air operations were suspended for a few minutes as a result of the incident.

The flight had taken off from Barcelona-El Prat airport around 3:40 p.m. local time and, when heading towards the Atlantic toward Boston, it changed trajectory and was diverted to Porto, where it landed shortly before 6:00 p.m. Portuguese time.
