In August, shopping basket prices increased by 0.58%. y/y, the most in POLOmarket, the cheapest in Auchan

The new study analyzed the prices of a sample shopping basket, which included the most popular items: dairy products, meat, cold cuts and fish, household chemicals, cosmetics, fruit and vegetables, fatty products and others. ASM SFA examines the prices of the same 40 products in 13 retail chains, both in traditional stores and in the e-commerce channel. The prices of similar products of the same brands and with the same weights were compared.

In POLOmarket, prices shot up the fastest, while in Aldi they dropped

As noted in the report, after the decline recorded in July, the average value of the shopping basket covered by the survey increased again on an annual basis in August.

August interrupted a short series of declines - the basket of basic FMCG products is again more expensive than a year ago, although the scale of this increase, 0.58 percent. y/y, remains incomparably lower than general consumer inflation. This result shows that price competition in the most frequently purchased categories still suppresses cost pressure more effectively than in other components of the CPI basket, Kamil Kruk from ASM SFA pointed out in the report.

The report noted that the cost of a basket consisting of the cheapest products reported in all locations of the surveyed chains was PLN 229.54. This is PLN 4.96 more than in July this year.

Assuming the highest basket prices, it would cost PLN 385.20, which is PLN 3.77 more than in July. The difference between the cheapest and the most expensive basket in August was PLN 155.66, i.e. PLN 1.19 lower than in July.

The data shows that in August this year year-to-year price increases were recorded in 9 out of 13 chains, and the results range from 8.57%. growth in E.Leclerc to 7.01 percent inheritance in Auchan. Compared to July, there were increases in eight chains, and in five the prices of the tested products were lower.

What is the cheapest store in Poland?

The largest increase in the average price of a shopping basket was recorded in the POLOmarket chain (6.9%), while the largest decrease was in Aldi stores (4.47%). Only in two chains the average value of the shopping basket was less than PLN 300.

Auchan remained the cheapest chain in August, where the average cost of the analyzed set of products was PLN 266.48 (PLN 1.82 more than in July this year). The average basket value in the second and third chains of the ranking was higher by PLN 30.33 (Makro Cash & Carry) and PLN 39.55 (Selgros Cash & Carry), respectively.

August is the most expensive month in Netto

The most expensive purchases in August could be made in the Netto chain. The basket cost PLN 338.81. As calculated, the difference between the cheapest and the most expensive basket value in the analyzed retail chains was 27.15%.
