Popular messaging application WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will make it easier for users to communicate with people who do not have an account. Thanks to the new “guest calls” feature under development, people who do not have a WhatsApp account will be able to participate in voice or video calls directly via a private web connection without the need to install an application or create an account. This innovation aims to make the user experience more accessible by using the WhatsApp Web infrastructure. The platform, which does not compromise on security throughout the process, requires the host user to approve each guest before accepting them into the meeting.

Guest Calls Are Made Via the Internet Browser

WhatsApp is now expanding the guest chats feature it previously introduced to voice and video calls. Now, users will be able to initiate communication without requiring any application installation by sending a special link they create via WhatsApp Web to the other party. The person who clicks on the link will be directed to the conversation interface directly through his browser. This method offers an extremely practical solution, especially for fast and temporary communication needs.

End-to-End Encryption Technology Ensures Security

The new feature maintains the high security standards used in existing WhatsApp calls. When a guest user joins via the link, a unique identifier is created for the browser session. This identifier forms the basis of a private encryption key that ensures the conversation is protected from beginning to end. Therefore, the fact that the person participating in the conversation does not have a WhatsApp account does not change the end-to-end encryption principle and third parties are prevented from accessing the conversation content.

Host Provides Complete Control Over the Conversation

In order to ensure security in guest calls, broad powers are given to the host user. When a person wants to join the conversation via the connection, the host must manually approve this request. This process is completely mandatory; Thus, unknown persons are prevented from entering the conversation without permission. Additionally, during the conversation, the host retains the right to remove unwanted people from the broadcast or end the entire conversation.

Guest Calls and Chats Are Separated

Although guest chats and calls share similar technologies, they differ in how they operate. While guest chats allow for long-term messaging thanks to their asynchronous structure, guest calls offer an instant communication experience. The connection expires as soon as the conversation ends. This creates the most efficient method for situations that require instant information exchange.

The feature is still in development process

For now, WhatsApp keeps this innovation only in the development phase and has not yet opened it to the general user base. No one, including beta version users, can actively test this feature. WhatsApp officials did not share an official schedule for when the feature will come to the stable version, but it is expected that this functionality will be available to all users with future updates.
