Tennis player Prozorova withdrawn from WTA 500 semi-finals in Singapore due to concussion

Tennis player Tatyana Prozorova said that the organizers of the WTA 500 tournament in Singapore, contrary to the wishes of the Russian, removed her from the semi-final match against Australian Talia Gibson.

The athletes were scheduled to play in the semifinal match on Saturday, but Gibson automatically qualified for the final of the tournament after Prozorova withdrew. According to a document on the website of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), the Russian woman was diagnosed with a concussion. Prozorova reached the semifinals for the first time in competitions under the auspices of the WTA.

“Guys, unfortunately, the organizers removed me from the match at a tournament in Singapore. Today, during a doubles match, one of my opponents hit me with a smash: the ball grazed my cheek and hit my shoulder. This happens sometimes. The physiotherapist called to the court insisted that I be taken off the court for a special test. Unfortunately, I did not know that I could refuse,” wrote Prozorova in Instagram stories * (belongs to Meta, whose activities are prohibited in Russia as extremist).

"The test was not easy. Considering that I spent more than three hours on the court on each of the last three days, I was tired and found it difficult to cope with some exercises, such as standing on one leg with my eyes closed. The physiotherapist also put pressure on me, implying that I could not make my own decisions and needed at least six days off from tennis. But unfortunately, the physiotherapist followed certain WTA protocol and put pressure on the organizers about my condition," she added.

The Russian also called on the WTA to reconsider the rules after the incident: “My team and I had a long discussion with the organizers, throughout the entire process the physiotherapist put pressure on everyone present and even argued that I was not capable of taking responsibility for my life. My dream week has come to an end today. I think you should reconsider your own rules. This is a system that makes players absolutely helpless. Unfortunately, with this decision the organizers have jeopardized my participation in the WTA 1000 tournament, which starts next Monday. The physio made it clear that I would not be allowed to play until the six days were up."
