A Polish representative was selected for a prestigious architecture exhibition

The winning project was selected by a jury consisting of Michał Duda, Donata Jaworska, Aleksandra Kędziorek, Michał Krasucki, Maciej Kuryłowicz, Marcin Kwietowicz, Grzegorz Piątek, Agnieszka Pindera, Ewa Porębska, Dorota Leśniak-Rychlak, Bolesław Stelmach, Małgorzata Tomczak and Olga Wysocka.

The work "The most expensive plot of land in the world" was submitted by curators Artur Jerzy Filip and Grzegorz Laszuk. Barbara Kinga Majewska, Julek Ploski, Adrian Cognac, Wiktor Malinowski, Bogna Świątkowska and Ewa Ziajkowska also take part in the project.

According to the jury, the project "is a daring manifesto of understanding the values that the city should represent."

"According to the curator's description, the performative exhibition and multimedia cantata are intended to provoke questions about the criteria that determine the role of the plot as the beginning of architecture. The exhibition ironically refers to the real estate market, questioning the primacy of economic criteria in the name of social values. It does it in an interdisciplinary way, in an artistic and supra-local language," wrote the justification.

What is the Venice Architecture Biennale?

The Venice Architecture Biennale (International Architecture Exhibition - Biennale Architettura) is one of the most important events in the world devoted to architecture, urban planning and contemporary challenges related to space design.

It is organized by the La Biennale di Venezia foundation. The exhibition is held every two years - the first edition was organized in 1980. Its main spaces are the historic areas of the Giardini and the Arsenale in Venice, as well as numerous accompanying exhibitions in other parts of the city.

The Biennial presents, among others:

main exhibition, prepared by the curator of a given edition around a selected topic;

national pavilions, where individual countries show their own projects and interpretations of architectural problems;

accompanying events: debates, installations, shows, publications and research projects.

The Biennial asks questions about how architecture responds to the climate crisis, migration, social inequalities, housing availability, technologies and heritage protection.
