Investment fund investigation finds political repercussions in AKP circles

While the investigation into investment funds continues, the political repercussions of the crisis are growing in AKP circles. Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested a new financial review from MASAK regarding some companies and their managers under investigation. However, the question asked in ruling circles is not limited to who manages the funds: Who supervised this structure while it was growing, who did not intervene?

TRUST IN INSTITUTIONS HAS BEEN SHAKEN

Sources speaking to Cumhuriyet pointed out the loss of citizens' savings as well as the weakening of trust in state institutions. According to the staff, the crisis also has political costs for the AKP. Sources said, "What is grave is the loss of trust in the state and institutions," and added, "This environment of distrust will harm the will of our President."

AKP sources state that addressing the crisis solely through the actions of company executives would be incomplete.

The staff, who wanted the audit processes and the steps not taken on time to be examined, asked, "How will those in positions of responsibility during the process be held accountable for this heavy situation?" he said. Pointing to the reaction that may occur among the AKP's social base, the sources commented, "Our President should not pay the price for someone's ambitions."

'WHO OPENED THE DOORS?'

The harshest questions behind the scenes are directed to the control mechanisms that operate during the growth of the funds. The staff asked, "Who supervised the collection of so much money? Who turned a blind eye? Who opened the doors? If so, who protected and looked after?" he asked. Stating that the investigation should not be limited to fund managers, sources expressed the opinion that "Bureaucratic and political connections, if any, should also be investigated to the fullest." Reminding that Turkey has experienced banker crises and bankruptcies in the past, sources said that a similar situation should not be allowed to be repeated under other names.

'THOSE WHO MAKE CALCULATIONS FOR AFTER ERDOĞAN ARE IN THE GAME'

Another assessment of the crisis in AKP circles is based on political calculations. Some AKP members claimed that what happened was part of an attempt to target Erdoğan. A staff member said, "Our esteemed President saw the game and pressed the button" and stated that these plans were disrupted when state institutions took action and investigations began.

The same staff revealed the tension behind the scenes with the words, "Those who make plans after our President are in this game." A common demand of the AKP front is that the investigation also reveals the responsibilities in the chain of control. According to them, the main question awaiting an answer is this: "While taking action against fund managers, will the decisions and possible relationships that allowed this situation to occur be also examined?"
