Yüksel Selçuk Türkoğlu put forward additional costs in LNG imports from the USA

İYİ Party Bursa Deputy Yüksel Selçuk Türkoğlu drew attention to the news that Turkey imported LNG from the USA in the amount of approximately 2 billion 667 million dollars in the first five months of this year. Pointing out that if the same amount of LNG was procured from alternative suppliers such as Qatar or Algeria, the cost would be approximately 1 billion 467 million dollars, Türkoğlu pointed out that an additional cost of approximately 1 billion 200 million dollars occurred in just a 5-month period. Türkoğlu asked whether these figures were correct or not, in his parliamentary question, which he requested the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar to answer.

In his response, Minister Bayraktar noted that "payment information regarding imports from the USA cannot be shared due to its confidentiality in line with the relevant provisions of purchase-sale agreements and current legislation." Bayraktar stated that the import data do not coincide with the EMRA reports and said, "The payment data mentioned does not reflect the truth. A calculation as stated in the question is not possible within the scope of the established pricing practices of the international LNG markets obtained with publicly available data." Bayraktar argued that there is no such thing as paying a higher price to any resource in LNG.

Russia is still the country from which Turkey imports the most oil when crude oil, gasoline, diesel, aviation fuels, marine fuels and fuel oil types are included. However, the USA surpassed Russia in crude oil imports in June. While 425 thousand 167 tons of crude oil were imported from Russia in June, crude oil imports from the USA increased to 570 thousand 676 tons. The tension in the Black Sea due to the war between Russia and Ukraine also has an impact on this.
