MİLLİYET.COM.TR / Greece-based OnAlert, in its analysis focusing on Türkiye, discussed the behind-the-scenes of the agreement between Athens and Tel Aviv and how it could change the military equation in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.
In the analysis, a striking claim was made that Israel provided information to Greece about Türkiye's movements and activities.
According to OnAlert, the real issue is not limited to which weapons Greece purchased from Israel. The analysis said, "Athens is trying to bring Israel's conflict experience to its own army with intelligence, surveillance, electronic warfare, unmanned systems, joint training and network-centric warfare capabilities."
'ANKARA DOES NOT ONLY FOLLOW DEVELOPMENTS'
In the analysis, which claimed that this picture was a new factor for Turkey, it was underlined that Ankara was not the only party following the developments, and it was evaluated that "Turkey, which has significantly expanded its military capacity in recent years, from UAVs/SIHAs to electronic warfare, from precision strike capabilities to the domestic defense industry, continues to be a strong actor of the competition in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean."
'THE UNKNOWN OF THE EQUATION'
One of the most striking headlines in the OnAlert analysis was the exchange of information and intelligence between Greece and Israel.
Pointing out that the Greek Ministry of National Defense defined military information exchange as one of the areas of cooperation between the two countries, in addition to joint training, exercises, maritime security and cyber security, the Greek press stated that the main issue that was not disclosed to the public was the scope, depth and content of this information exchange.
The Greek press claimed that there was information that Israel provided information to the Greek side about Turkish movements and activities, and described this as the "unknown of the equation".
OnAlert argued that the advantage in modern warfare lies not only in the number of weapon systems, but in how early the opponent's movements, preparation and position in the field can be detected.
'TRANSFERRED FROM TEL AVIV TO ATHENS'
According to OnAlert, Athens is not only cooperating with Israel, but is also gradually bringing Israel's intelligence and operational philosophy to the Greek Armed Forces.
In this context, the Greek press cited the Israeli company Elbit's offering of the C-390's ISR/SIGINT capabilities to the Greek Air Force in July 2026 as one of the remarkable developments.
'WE CANNOT LEAVE TURKEY BEHIND'
On the other hand, OnAlert reminded that Türkiye has also made major investments in unmanned aerial vehicles, electronic warfare, network-centric operations and information systems, and wrote that the development in intelligence and surveillance capacity has gained importance for the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.
The analysis said, "We cannot leave Türkiye behind. Türkiye's expansion of its own defense industry infrastructure in recent years and the capabilities it has developed in the fields of UAV/SIHA, electronic warfare, reconnaissance-surveillance, precision strike and network-centered movement constitute an important element of power against the capacity that Athens is trying to obtain through Israel."
'DIFFICULT PLAN'
Israeli weapon systems also took an important place in the analysis of the Greek press. OnAlert specifically focused on the SPIKE NLOS and PULS systems, as well as Greece's new multi-layered air and missile defense project Tholos.
It was stated that Tholos, which is planned to bring together David Sling, SPYDER, BARAK MX, Israeli radars and unified command-control systems, aims to transform the Greek air defense from independent systems into a networked defense architecture.
While it is written in the analysis that Tholos is planned to create a new challenge in terms of Türkiye's possible air operations, "Türkiye's transformation in the field of defense also constitutes the other side of this picture. While Ankara is expanding its domestic capacity in the fields of radar, electronic warfare, air defense, unmanned systems, precision ammunition and reconnaissance-surveillance, it is also trying to reduce its foreign dependency in the defense industry. Therefore, this picture is not just about the increase in Athens' capacity. It also reveals a competitive environment in which Türkiye increases its own military and technological capacity." 'POSSIBLE CONFLICT SCENARIO'
According to the hypothetical crisis scenario of the Greek press, in a possible conflict, Turkey may face not only Greek warplanes, but also radars, land-based air defense systems, electronic sensors and an integrated command-control network.
However, Türkiye's capabilities are also on the other side of the equation.
UAV/SIHA technologies, electronic warfare, intelligence-surveillance capability, precision munitions and the developing domestic defense industry ecosystem are among the important advantages that Ankara has in the face of a possible crisis.
Therefore, the resulting picture points to an area of competition in which both sides constantly improve their military technology and operational capacity, rather than an equation in which Greece establishes a unilateral superiority with the support of Israel.
'54 ACTIVITIES'
In the analysis, it was underlined that the scope of Greece-Israel military cooperation will also show itself in joint exercises and training programs.
OnAlert stated that 54 activities are planned within the scope of the 2026 Greece-Israel Defense Cooperation Program; He stated that 29 of these will be held in Greece and 25 in Israel.
The Greek press wrote that the two countries also deepened their cooperation in the fight against unmanned aerial vehicles and drone swarms, unmanned underwater vehicles and cyber threats.
While it was stated that the Israeli Air Force regularly participated in the exercises in Greece, it was reminded that in the INIOCHOS 2025 exercise, it took part in air combat, attack on ground targets and operation scenarios against advanced air defense threats with the G550 “Eitam” aircraft.
'NO AUTOMATIC ALLIANCE IN POTENTIAL CONFLICT'
Finally, another point that attracted attention in the analysis of the Greek press was Israel's role in a possible Türkiye-Greece crisis.
OnAlert stated that it would be wrong to conclude that Israel would automatically intervene militarily on the side of Greece in such a situation.
It was emphasized that there is no automatic alliance provision between the two countries that would bring Israel into the war on the side of Greece in a possible Türkiye-Greece conflict.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The "Achilles Shield" air defense agreement worth approximately 3 billion euros was signed between the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the Greek Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv.
It was stated that the agreement included Rafael's David Sling and IAI's Barak MX systems, as well as Rafael's Spyder and IAI's MMR type multi-mission radars for air control.
In addition, a new national command and control system to be developed under the leadership of Rafael was also included in the agreement.
