Heavy rain and storm in Greece: Vehicles were dragged into the sea, a woman was injured

According to reports in the Greek press, heavy rain and wind dominated the Mani province in the Peloponnese.

While floods occurred as a result of heavy rain, many houses and shops were flooded.

While vehicles were flooded on the streets, it was stated that cars were dragged into the sea in the village of Karavostasi.

Kokkala, Alipa, Karavostasi and Itilo villages on the peninsula were among the places where the most damage was seen.

Mani Deputy Mayor Yeorgia Lirofoni, in his statement to the Greek State Agency AMNA, stated that many houses in the region were damaged and heavy rain also caused great damage to roads and bridges.

Lirofoni stated that many people were hosted in gyms in neighboring areas that were not damaged by the flood to spend the night.

Greek Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis, in his post on the social media platform of the US-based company X, stated that a woman in her car was injured after being struck by lightning in the village of Itilo.

Wind speed exceeded 100 kilometers per hour

According to data from the Greek Meteorological Office, the wind speed on Penteli Hill reached 112 kilometers per hour.

The wind speed was measured as 107 kilometers per hour in the Karistos region of Euboea Island and 104 kilometers per hour in Tine Island.

Due to the strong winds affecting the country, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of Greece warned citizens and authorities about the high risk of fire.

Today, a fire broke out in the Vamvakes Village in the Lutraki province and in the islands of Tine, Samothrace and Iskiri.
