Forest fire on Salamina Island, Greece: 2 dead, 9 injured

According to the news of Greek State Television ERT, the dead bodies of 2 people were found in the fire that broke out in the forest area in the Peristeria region of Salamina Island today.

The fire spread to houses in the area.

Greek Fire Brigade Spokesperson Vasilis Vathrakoyannis, in his statement, stated that 9 people have been injured in the fire so far and that fire extinguishing efforts are continuing.

Today, around 15:00 local time, a forest fire broke out in two different locations on Salamina Island, in the Peristeria and Selinia regions, and fire crews initiated intervention from both land and air.

Residents of the region were faced with heavy smoke, and the Peristeria, Kolones, Dei Halioti and Perani areas were evacuated.
