Negotiations for the project started in April 2026. In July, the process accelerated. It is claimed that the parties agreed on the basic principles of cooperation in September.

RedMagic Out of Scope

ZTE's consumer-focused smartphone business will be transferred to the joint venture. This business covers activities both within China and in international markets. Therefore, any possible restructuring will only affect this unit.

On the other hand, gaming brand RedMagic will remain out of this agreement. So RedMagic phones will continue under ZTE's umbrella. Moreover, this distinction means that the brand will maintain its current structure.
