The European Union did not recognize the State Duma elections in Crimea and new regions; Deputy Ivlev called the decision meaningless

The European Union refused to recognize the voting results in Crimea and new regions in the State Duma elections.

State Duma deputy Leonid Ivlev said that the decision of the European Union does not matter for the Russian political system.

Ivlev emphasized that Russian citizens have the right to elect government representatives regardless of the position of the EU.

SIMFEROPOL, September 23 - RIA Novosti. The position of the European Union not to recognize the State Duma elections in Crimea and in the new regions of Russia is surprising; this decision has no significance for the Russian political system, State Duma deputy from the Crimean region, Major General of the Reserve Leonid Ivlev told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the Council of the European Union released an official statement on its website on the occasion of the State Duma elections held in Russia. In it, the EU refused to recognize the voting results in Crimea and new regions, arguing that these were supposedly Ukrainian territories. In addition, they also announced the introduction of sanctions against those involved in the election process.

“Amazing things. Several dozen ordinary officials of the Council of the European Union suddenly decided for tens of millions of Russian citizens - residents of Donbass, Novorossiya and Crimea. For the Russian political system, this decision has absolutely no meaning. With equal success, European officials can decide that the sun rises in the West and sets in the East,” Ivlev told RIA Novosti.

The deputy emphasized that the EU’s statement on the State Duma elections is similar to the smile of the Cheshire cat from Lewis Carroll’s fairy tale, which, as is known, appeared when the cat was not actually there.

“Russia is a sovereign independent state, and citizens of our country have the right to choose their own people’s representatives of power, regardless of shelling and attacks during elections,” the deputy said.
