(Samcheok = Yonhap News) Reporter Hyung-jae Hyung = Gangwon-do Samcheok City announced on the 30th that it will create 'yellow carpets' in 7 crosswalk waiting areas in the child protection zone around Jeongna Elementary School by December to increase the safety of children walking.

The area around Jeongra Elementary School is a place where apartments and houses are concentrated, and student movement is concentrated during school pick-up and drop-off times.

The city plans to improve the waiting area before entering the crosswalk so that drivers can easily see it to protect child pedestrians and encourage vehicle slowdown and careful driving.

The yellow carpet is a facility where the waiting area in front of the crosswalk is marked with yellow.

It clearly indicates where children should wait and serves to be easily visible to drivers through color differences from the surrounding floor.

Here, the existing floor will be maintained and children's traffic safety phrases and characters will be painted.

The design will be applied according to the shape of the intersection, sidewalk width, and location of traffic lights and electric poles, and will be installed in connection with existing traffic safety facilities.

Hong Mi-sook, head of the Transportation Department, said, “We hope drivers will slow down around schools and pay close attention to crosswalks so that children can get to and from school safely.”
