On Wednesday, the diplomat took part in the panel discussion “The Image of Russia in the Global Information Space” at the International Youth Festival.

“We employ more than a hundred journalists, namely from Western countries: the USA, Britain, Germany, France, Italy... Russia left all the doors open for them... But either the authorities, or their curators, or their owners forbade them from communicating at all with those who represent the official point of view in Russia,” Zakharova said.

She added that Western journalists are even punished for asking questions to Russian-speaking speakers or for traveling around the country and making real reports.

At the same time, it is important for Russia to remain open to Western journalists accredited in the country: this, according to Zakharova, is a matter of respect for the journalistic profession.
