Pilot "bike travel" service
Starting from September 20, 2026, the Hainan island-circling high-speed railway will pilot a "bicycle travel" service. After passengers complete the reservation and payment online through the railway 12306 App, they can travel with their bicycles in accordance with the regulations, realizing the seamless connection of "high-speed rail + cycling" and starting outdoor travel on the go.
Which new stations can be added?
This pilot covers 13 stations in the Hainan island-circling high-speed railway, namely Haikou Station, Haikou East Station, Wenchang Station, Qionghai Station, Wanning Station, Lingshui Station, Sanya Station, Phoenix Airport Station, Yazhou Station, Ledong Station, Dongfang Station, Baimajing Station, and Laocheng Station.
Passengers can make an appointment to purchase this service through the "Bicycle Travel" function entrance of the railway 12306 App, and complete online payment through the railway electronic payment platform. The basic price of the service is 88 yuan/vehicle. During the operation, the price will dynamically fluctuate based on seasonal characteristics and passenger flow conditions.
Previously, the railway department has launched a pilot "bicycle travel" service on the G-prefix EMU trains running between stations on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway between Beijing North and Chongli.
The pilot station of Hainan's high-speed railway around the island provides exclusive security check and ticket checking channels. The site is equipped with front wheel removal tools and special recyclable packaging bags to facilitate passengers to prepare for carrying their cars and enter the station in an orderly manner.
Warm reminder
The bicycle carry-on service requires passengers to remove the front wheel and pack it in a packaging bag before taking it into the station for riding.
Passengers who need to issue an invoice can issue an electronic invoice through the railway 12306 client within 180 days after the ride.
In recent years, with its unique climate and environment, Hainan has gradually developed into a popular destination for domestic and even international cycling and outdoor tourism.
"Many cyclists prefer Hainan for cycling around the island because it combines scenery, culture and cycling feelings. Ordinary people can also realize their dream of traveling around the island." Ms. Wang, a local cycling station operator, was deeply touched.
Ms. Wang said that with the launch of the Hainan island-circuit high-speed rail "bicycle travel" service, people and bicycles can ride the high-speed rail together without having to ride the entire journey at once. Cycling can be combined with the high-speed rail to travel in sections, which greatly lowers the threshold for riding around the island and makes the gameplay more flexible.
The landscape is rich and the landforms are diverse. Hainan Island is not just about the sea. The coconut grove beach on the east line, the fishing port salt field on the west line, the tropical rainforest on the middle line, and the mountains, seas and countryside switch along the way, creating a unique romance of coastal cycling.
Immersive island cultural experience. Cycling to visit the old houses in Wenchang, the hometown of overseas Chinese in Qionghai, and the seaside fishing villages. Stop to eat some noodles and refresh yourself, get close to the life of the locals, and deeply experience the daily life of the island's fireworks.
The threshold is friendly and full of ritual. The main line of the Hainan Island Tourist Highway is 988 kilometers long and is a classic domestic cycling loop. The difficulty is moderate. Compared with the high threshold of the Sichuan-Tibet Line, novices can also boldly challenge it.
