EKATERINBURG, September 15 - RIA Novosti. The position of Armenia, which seeks to become a member of the European Union while remaining a member of the EAEU, is comparable to the dishonest behavior of members of the same family, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

“I don’t want to draw parallels, but it’s the same thing when there are two people living in a family, and one already seems to be living in another family. The second one asks him: where are you after all? Do we have a family or are you already in another family? And the answer is, they say, we’ll decide later. When then? When will they start taking out the furniture? This is basic decency,” Zakharova said at a briefing in Yekaterinburg, where the International Youth Festival is taking place.

Zakharova also noted that it would be very important for the Armenian government to ask the opinion of its own people regarding the movement towards a course of the European Union that is openly hostile to Russia and the entire EAEU, and only then engage in its legal formalization.

In March 2025, the Armenian Parliament adopted a law on the beginning of the process of Armenia’s accession to the European Union. The Russian side noted that being in a customs union with both the EU and the EAEU is impossible.
