Catherine Ringer, lead singer of Les Rita Mitsouko, has died in Paris

Catherine Ringer, French singer and historic voice of Les Rita Mitsouko, died overnight in Paris at the age of 68. The announcement was made by the family, who reported that the artist died due to "fulminating cancer".

Among the best-known figures of French music in recent decades, Ringer continued to work even after the end of his experience with Rita Mitsouko, taking part in concerts, shows and artistic collaborations.

Career

Born in Paris on 18 October 1957, Catherine Ringer began her artistic journey between theatre, dance and music before founding the group Les Rita Mitsouko in the early 1980s, together with Fred Chichin. The band established itself on the French music scene with a repertoire that combined rock, pop and new wave, gaining notoriety even outside France.

Over the course of their career the duo released numerous successful albums and became one of the references of contemporary French music. Among the best-known songs are “Marcia Baila”, “Andy”, “C'est comme ça” and “Les Histoires d'A”. After Chichin's death in 2007 and the end of the Rita Mitsouko experience, Ringer continued his solo activity with albums, tours and artistic collaborations.

Rita Mitsouko's successes

Between the 80s and 90s, Les Rita Mitsouko were among the most popular groups on the French music scene. The duo formed by Catherine Ringer and Fred Chichin achieved international success thanks to a style that mixed rock, pop, punk and new wave sounds.

“Marcia Baila”, published in 1984, is considered the symbolic song of the formation, while “Andy” contributed to broadening the group's success beyond the French borders.
