Gilmar Mendes criticizes the removal of the PF general director and classifies the measure as a shame

Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), criticized this Tuesday (15) the removal of the director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, during the trial that discusses acts carried out in the investigation involving minister Alexandre de Moraes.

When commenting on the decision that determined Andrei's temporary departure from the position, Gilmar stated that the measure should not have been adopted and classified the situation as a "disgrace" for the institution.

"Any citizen who has the slightest notion of what the Federal Police means, which is an armed body submitted to the hierarchy, would not remove a director general of the Police. It is like removing the president of NASA or removing the commander of the Army", he declared.

Then, the minister raised the tone of criticism.

"The guy has to handcuff himself before doing this kind of thing. When he is tempted, he has to ask God to intercede and not do it," he said.

According to Gilmar, the measure unnecessarily exposed the Federal Police.

"Subjecting an institution that is already experiencing all the problems it has to this type of embarrassment is a lack of emotion, of a severity that I have never seen," he said.

The statements were made while the ministers discussed the conduct of procedures related to the report produced by the Federal Police and the conflicting decisions taken in the case by members of the Court.

Before Gilmar's speech, the president of the STF, Edson Fachin, stated that there were divergent decisions made by ministers regarding the situation of the PF director general and that the Presidency could not "stand still" in the face of this scenario.

After Gilmar's speech, Minister Luiz Fux stated that the Second Panel of the STF identified "deviations of purpose" in the actions of the director general of the Federal Police.

According to Fux, the corporation began to act against the Judiciary by forwarding documents and information that, in his opinion, contributed to wearing down the Court.

“What the Federal Police cannot do is work against the Judiciary,” stated Fux.

The minister also declared that he had never imagined a situation in which the Federal Police would "penetrate" a member of the Supreme Court and said that the court's actions sought to contain an institutional crisis between the corporation and the Court.
