Starting March 1, 2027, drivers will begin to be referred for extraordinary medical examinations if a doctor identifies signs of conditions that prevent driving during an appointment, Kamila Khasanova, a lawyer and member of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, told RIA Novosti.

According to her, the current medical control system provides for undergoing a medical examination once every ten years, however, starting March 1, 2027, if during a health check-up (dispanserization), routine medical examination, or other visit to a doctor, a driver is found to have signs of diseases that prevent driving a car, they will be obligated to undergo an extraordinary medical examination.

"The amendments provide for the following procedure: the driver receives a notice of the need to undergo an extraordinary examination. Three months from the date of receiving the notice are allotted to complete it, and during this period the right to drive vehicles is retained in full: no one automatically deprives the driver of their license," Khasanova said.

She noted that in case of refusal to undergo the extraordinary medical examination, the driver will be deprived of their license.

The lawyer added that if a citizen undergoes the examination and no contraindications are identified, the license will be reinstated based on the medical conclusion. At the same time, there is no need to retake the exams.

As of September 1, 2025, the list of medical contraindications and restrictions for driving a vehicle includes acquired color vision deficiency and color blindness. In addition, it also includes various forms of daltonism.
