Minister of Education appoints student mental health and suicide prevention policy advisory group and holds 1st meeting

Minister of Education Choi Kyo-jin appointed 12 members of the 'Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Policy Advisory Group' and held the first meeting at the Dalgaebi Conference House in Seoul on the afternoon of the 30th.

This advisory group was launched to promote student mental health policies based on field expertise in each field, including education, medical care, and counseling. It will play an advisory role in establishing related policies and improving systems in the future.

At the first meeting, the progress of the 'Pan-Government Measures to Prevent Teen Suicide' announced last June and the results of the 'Study on the Relationship between Student Emotions and Student Personal Background Factors' conducted as a recent policy research project by the Ministry of Education will be shared. Afterwards, free discussion among the advisory committee members takes place.

Minister Choi said, “It is difficult to explain the emotional difficulties that students experience through a single cause, so it is important to bring together expertise and experience in various fields such as education, counseling, and medicine,” and added, “I hope that the advisory group will serve as a conduit that continuously connects policy and the field.”
