National Hangeul Museum selects 27 winners of ‘Hangul Handwritten Letter Contest to Characters in Books’

The National Hangeul Museum announced on the 29th that it had selected a total of 27 works as winners of the '12th Hangeul Handwritten Letter Contest to Characters in Books.'

10,679 elementary school students participated in the contest hosted in conjunction with the National Library for Children and Youth.

This year's grand prize (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award) was awarded to Kim Jun-hyuk, a first-grader at Daegu Pyeongri Elementary School who read the book 'Peach and the Caterpillar' and wrote a letter to the caterpillar.

Writer Song Mi-kyung, who participated in the judging, said, "It was impressive that he expressed his feelings in his own sincere language without having to search for fancy words."

The winning works will be revealed at the outdoor exhibition hall of the National Library for Children and Youth from the 1st of next month to November 1, and will be introduced in about 10 local libraries next year.

Kyobo Bookstore's Gwanghwamun branch will also display the winning works of the Kyobo Handwriting Contest.

Lim Seong-hwan, director of the National Hangeul Museum, said, "The children's handwritten letters filled with pure hearts and sincerity will bring fresh emotions and smiles to all visitors."
