Fraudsters create fake school applications and diaries before September 1

MOSCOW, August 30 - RIA Novosti. On the eve of Knowledge Day, attackers create fake versions of school electronic diaries, applications with lesson schedules and grades, and then distribute them through parent chats under the guise of updates or new versions of official services, RuStore and F6 companies told RIA Novosti.

“Criminals create fake versions of electronic diaries, applications with lesson schedules and grades, and then distribute them through parent chats under the guise of updates or new versions of official services. After authorization in such an application, the user transfers his credentials to the scammers - login and password,” the companies found out.

It is noted that scammers also disguise phishing sites as various services and official resources for university students.

In addition, scammers can distribute copies of banking applications or payment services under the pretext of “paying for a club,” “paying a school fee,” or “getting a discount on goods by September 1.” After entering data, the user risks losing access to the account.

According to experts, teachers who offer tutoring services are also at risk of fraudulent attacks. Thus, attackers, under the guise of a client, ask for a consultation and offer to do it on Zoom - supposedly it’s more convenient to communicate in the business version.

After the user agrees, the scammer sends a link to a phishing page that looks similar to a Zoom video conference, which asks you to go through several checks and at the end enter your Google account login information.

“After entering your Google account details, the phishing page requests a confirmation code, which is sent to Telegram and is needed by attackers to hijack your messenger account,” the companies commented.
