Slovakia will receive more than 105 million euros from the European Peace Fund for military equipment transferred to Ukraine.

The decision to allocate funds was made this week.

Initially, Slovakia could have found itself in the red, since for the transfer of military equipment to Ukraine it had to contribute an additional 3 million euros to the European Peace Fund.

BRATISLAVA, September 28 - RIA Novosti. Slovakia will receive another more than 100 million euros from the European Peace Fund for military equipment transferred to Ukraine, said Robert Bestro, director general of the defense policy section of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic.

"We have secured another 105 million (euro - ed.) from the European Peace Fund for Slovakia, which is already a reality. This decision was made this week," Bestro said on his Facebook page* on Monday.

According to him, the situation around the military equipment transferred to Kyiv could have resulted in Slovakia being in the red.

“In the end, we learned that for the fact that we donated military equipment to Ukraine, we would be “gifted” by the fact that we would have to contribute an additional 3 million (euro - ed.) to the European Peace Fund. Thus, we would be in the red. For us, this was an unacceptable situation,” said Bestro.

In April 2022, Slovakia transferred the S-300 air defense system to Ukraine. In April 2023, the Slovak side also completed the transfer of 13 MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. In the spring of the same year, the republic decided to transfer part of the KUB air defense systems to Kyiv. With the government of Roberto Fico coming to power in Slovakia in the fall of 2023, the supply of military aid to Kyiv from state resources was stopped. In October 2024, the Supreme Audit Office of Slovakia reported that the republic had provided almost 700 million euros in military material to Kyiv since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine.
