Russian drone attack on National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv – at least one dead

According to Ukrainian reports, at least one woman was killed in a Russian drone attack on the National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv. Six people were injured, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The building is close to the National Opera, several government buildings – and the German embassy. Ukraine accuses the Russian army of having recently increasingly targeted cultural institutions, government and commercial buildings and schools.

The Foreign Office condemned the attack: "Russia is once again accepting civilian deaths and injuries - even in the immediate vicinity of our embassy," writes the Foreign Office on X . “We continue to support Ukraine.” The National Academy of Sciences spoke of “Russian terror” and “barbarism.” The attack was directed against “peaceful people who were simply at their workplaces” and “Ukrainian science, education and culture”.

In a video released by Ukrainian President Zelensky, high flames and thick smoke billow from the heavily damaged building. Further recordings are said to show how people fled to window sills to escape the flames.

Russia attacks again near Ukrainian border crossing with Poland

Meanwhile, Poland's Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that there had been another drone attack not far from the Polish-Ukrainian border crossing Dorohusk-Jahodyn. “Another attack by Russia on western Ukraine,” writes Kosiniak-Kamysz on X . "A jet-powered drone hit the Ukrainian side about two kilometers from the border crossing with Poland in Dorohusk." The airspace over Poland was therefore not violated.

Jahodyn-Dorohusk is one of the most important border crossings for Ukraine; every day countless trucks pass through the EU's external border with goods destined for Kyiv. In recent weeks there have been several Russian drone attacks on Ukrainian territory. Among other things, a passenger train from Kyiv to Warsaw was attacked.
