In Arkhangelsk, the Oktyabrsky District Court sentenced in absentia former police major Vasily Skripchuk, who for years helped criminals evade raids and received bribes from them, to 11 years in prison. TASS reports this with reference to the press service of the court.

According to the agency, Skripchuk is on the international wanted list. In addition to the term, he received a fine of one million rubles with deprivation of the right to hold civil service positions in law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation for three years. In addition, he was stripped of the special rank of police major. The term of serving the sentence will be calculated from the moment of the actual detention of the ex-policeman.

As the court found, in 2011-2014, the convict, being a law enforcement officer, received bribes for providing confidential operational information and for patronizing and condoning criminal activities. Skripchuk provided bribe-payers with information about the time of inspections, which made it possible to identify illegal gambling establishments and prostitution organizations. Thus, the defendant received bribes in the amount of 950 thousand rubles.
