The third trial of the torture-to-death case of a supermarket clerk in Tainan was released. The female store manager was sentenced to 12 years, and the leader of the Sihai Gang was sentenced to 17 years.

After a supermarket clerk surnamed Ding fell to his death in Tainan's Yongkang District in 2023, prosecutors found out that he was detained, beaten and forced to pay money by female store manager Chen Yiling, together with Sihai Gang Haiwentang leaders Liu Jiayou and Zeng Hanren, who were suspected of embezzling company funds. Ding Nan wanted to escape, but was shot in the waist by Zeng Nan. In the end, he realized that he had no way to seek help, so he jumped from the balcony of his 13th floor residence and died of his injuries. The Supreme Court sentenced Chen Yiling to 12 years, Liu Jiayou to 17 years, and Zeng Hanren to 14 years for robbery with weapons and other crimes. The whole case is settled.

Chen Yiling is a female store manager of a FamilyMart store in Yongkang District, Tainan. Because she suspected that Ding had embezzled money from the store, she teamed up with Liu Jiayou to deal with Ding. Liu Jiayou recruited several members of the organization to go to the supermarket in the early morning of April 27, 2023, and beat Ding on the head and body with metal wrenches, wine bottles, etc., and forced him to sign a promissory note and settlement letter of 1 million yuan, and asked Ding to hand over a gold necklace.

After Ding was beaten, he took four days off and did not return to work at the supermarket until May 2. After Liu Jiayou, Zeng Hanren, Gao Pinyang and others found out, they summoned several gang members to the supermarket to attack Ding. In the early morning of the next day, Ding was called into the supermarket warehouse and was questioned by everyone about whether he had embezzled money. During the process, people continued to beat his hands and buttocks with water pipes. Ding could not bear the abuse and revealed that he had embezzled 200,000 yuan.

Liu Jiayou and others contacted Ding's mother and asked her to remit 200,000 yuan. During the process, they also forced Ding to kneel down, take off her pants and beat her repeatedly. Unable to bear the abuse, Ding called his mother and asked her to transfer 200,000 to Chen Yiling's account. After receiving the money, Liu Jiayou intensified his efforts, instructing everyone to take Ding somewhere in Kaohsiung, and continued to demand money from Ding's family.

After Ding learned about it, he returned to his residence on the 13th floor of Yongkang Building under the supervision of Zeng Hanren and a boy named He. Afterwards, because Ding was unwilling to return to the supermarket, Zeng Hanren put a gun to his waist to intimidate him and fired the gun. The bullet penetrated Ding's waist. In the end, Ding realized that he had no way to seek help, so he jumped from the balcony of his residence to the ground. He eventually died of blunt trauma to his head, chest, and abdomen, as well as multiple fractures and organ rupture, resulting in multiple organ damage and bleeding.

The second-instance verdict of the Tainan High Court sentenced Chen Yiling to 12 years in prison and Liu Jiayou to 17 years in prison for the crimes of banditry with a group of more than 3 people, banditry with a weapon with a group of more than 3 people, and 14-year imprisonment for Zeng Hanren for the crimes of banditry with a group of more than 3 people, banditry with a weapon with a group of more than 3 people, and injury resulting in death.

The remaining defendants, female supermarket clerk Fang Qiurong, was sentenced to seven years and two months in prison for ganging up with more than three people and carrying weapons. Gao Pinyang, a member of the organization, was sentenced to seven years and two months in prison for ganging up to three or more people and carrying weapons. Chen Yiling's boyfriend Lin Zhihao was sentenced to eight years in prison for ganging up to three or more people.

The case was appealed to the third instance. The Supreme Court believed that the original judgment was not erroneous, so it rejected the appeal and the whole case was settled.
