Qinghai, Tibet, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Gansu provinces jointly issued a declaration on the protection of wild Cordyceps sinensis

China News Service, Xining, September 22 (Qi Zenbei) On the 22nd, the five provinces and autonomous regions of Qinghai, Tibet, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Gansu jointly issued the "Action Declaration for the Protection of Wild Cordyceps Sinensis Resources in the Five Provinces and Regions" in Xining City, Qinghai Province, delineating five action red lines to jointly protect the alpine meadow ecology and wild Cordyceps sinensis germplasm resources of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

According to reports, the above-mentioned five provinces and regions gather 98% of the world’s wild Cordyceps sinensis biological resources. Wild Cordyceps sinensis is a rare and unique germplasm resource bred in the alpine meadow ecosystem. It has ecological, cultural and livelihood values, and is also an important source of income for plateau farmers and herdsmen.

Currently, affected by multiple factors such as changes in the ecological environment, market fluctuations, and the rapid development of the artificially cultivated Cordyceps industry, the protection of wild Cordyceps germplasm resources, ecological environment protection, and market regulation are facing multiple challenges. Problems such as over-exploitation, confusion between authenticity and false propaganda, and false propaganda not only threaten the ecological balance of alpine meadows, but also damage the legitimate rights and interests of farmers, herdsmen and consumers.

The declaration released this time clarifies five core red lines: Strictly abide by the red line of origin protection, and control the annual mining volume within one-fifth of the resource reserve; Strictly abide by the red line of market transaction law, establish a cross-regional law enforcement linkage mechanism, and build a full-chain traceability supervision system; Strictly abide by the red line of industry supervision and governance, clarify the boundary between wild and artificially cultivated Cordyceps; Strictly abide by the red line of category differentiation, jointly build a germplasm and monitoring database; Improve the cross-regional talent sharing mechanism, and carry out grassroots management and practical training for farmers and herdsmen.

Hou Tianmin, deputy director of the Qinghai Provincial Forestry and Grassland Bureau, said that the declaration aims to balance ecological protection, sustainable resource utilization and people's income increase. "The five provinces and regions will abandon the extensive development model and use cross-regional collaborative governance to achieve the goals of strong plateau ecological protection, sustainable resource utilization, and continuous improvement of people's livelihood."
