In response to the ban on feeding food waste to pigs next year, the Ministry of Environment visited Taoyuan Hongqiao to learn from environmental protection

On the 22nd, the Environmental Management Agency of the Ministry of Environment led various county and city environmental protection units to visit Hongqiao Environmental Protection Technology Engineering Co., Ltd. in Guanyin District, Taoyuan.

A total ban on feeding pigs with food waste will be implemented next year, impacting the decontamination and reuse of food waste across Taiwan. Today (22nd), the Environmental Management Agency of the Ministry of Environment led various county and city environmental protection units to visit Hongqiao Environmental Protection Technology Engineering Co., Ltd. in Guanyin District, Taoyuan. They learned about the rapid conversion of food waste into organic fertilizers, low-carbon production and resource recycling technologies, and exchanged views on the diversified decomposition and recycling of food waste in the future.

Chen Zhenchang, section chief of the Environmental Management Department, said that food waste treatment should develop in a diversified direction, providing more choices for environmental protection units in various counties and cities through different reuse and treatment technologies. This on-site visit is arranged to allow each unit to understand the operation methods, characteristics and applicable conditions of different technologies, and to further understand the relevant details through on-site exchanges. Since the food waste treatment needs and setting conditions of each county and city are different, the suitability of the technology can still be evaluated based on the actual situation in the future, which can be used as a reference for future planning of food waste removal and resource reuse.

Zhang Yongyang, chairman of Hongqiao Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., said that the company has continued to invest in food waste resource technology for many years. With its long-term accumulated experience and the power of biochemical technology, it can convert food waste into organic fertilizer within three and a half hours, and is moving towards fully providing the nutrients needed for agricultural plant cultivation. In line with the international net-zero carbon emission trend, Hongqiao has also continued to invest in low-carbon emission production technology and organic fertilizer-related research and development. It has innovatively developed new energy sources for organic fertilizers with low-carbon emission production technology and obtained certification from a third-party notary company in 2025. As an important basis for low-carbon emission technology and industrial development, Hongqiao also hopes to jointly invest with government agricultural units to promote the development of Taiwan's all-round organic agriculture.
