Tropical Depression TD29 will become Typhoon Shuliki as soon as possible and may affect Taiwan next Monday or Tuesday

Typhoon Shuliji will form as soon as tomorrow! The Central Meteorological Administration predicts that tropical depression TD29 will continue to intensify in the next few days, and will become a mild typhoon "Shuliki" as soon as tomorrow, and will affect Taiwan's weather on Monday and Tuesday (28th and 29th) next week. The key turning point will be this Friday and Saturday, which will determine whether it will invade Taiwan.

Zheng Jieren, a forecaster from the Meteorological Administration, said that the weather will be cloudy to sunny in various places during the day tomorrow, but it will begin to be affected by northerly winds at night. There will be local short-lived showers on the north coast of Keelung, the northeast and the mountainous areas of Greater Taipei, and there will also be sporadic short-lived showers in Greater Taipei, the east, the southeast and the Hengchun Peninsula, affecting all the way until Thursday (24th).

"The weather during the Mid-Autumn Festival and the first half of the holiday is good, but be aware that the second half may be affected by the cloud system outside the typhoon." Zheng Jieren said that during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from Friday to Sunday (25th to 27th), the weather is mostly cloudy to sunny in various places, with only some short-lived showers in the southern mountainous areas in the afternoon, and scattered short-lived showers in the southern and other mountainous areas.

Zheng Jieren said that tropical depression TD29 is currently continuing to intensify, and the environment on its future path will be suitable for development. It is predicted that it will intensify into a moderate typhoon. He pointed out that TD29 will intensify into a mild typhoon "Shuliki" as soon as tomorrow (23rd) and move all the way to the northwest and west. According to today's forecast, the probability of turning northward is high, but the uncertainty is very high.

Zheng Jieren said that the key turning point is during the period from Friday to Saturday. When the quasi-"Shuriki" moves to the Ryukyu Sea, if the Pacific high pressure is strong, it will push "Shuriki" down and get very close to Taiwan; if the Pacific high pressure weakens, it will turn north and have little impact on Taiwan. Therefore, the turning point on Friday and Saturday is the critical period.

Tropical depression TD29 has a central pressure of 1006 hPa. Its center position at 2 pm today (22nd) is 12.9 degrees north latitude and 141.4 degrees east longitude, which is 2390 kilometers southeast and east of Eluanbi. It is turning northwest to northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour and 22 kilometers per hour, and has a tendency to develop into a mild typhoon.
