Ulju-gun participates in joint Wolseong nuclear power plant training and inspects radioactive disaster prevention response system

Ulju-gun is a local government where the Saeul Nuclear Power Plant is located, and some areas are included in the radiation emergency planning area of ​​the adjacent Kori Nuclear Power Plant in Gijang-gun, Busan, and the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant in Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, so it has regional characteristics that require response to various scenarios in the event of a nuclear accident.

Based on the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant, Beomseo-eup, Eonyang-eup, and Dudong-myeon in Ulju-gun are included in the emergency planning area, and Ulju-gun has not only conducted its own radiation disaster prevention training centered on the Saeul Nuclear Power Plant, but has also continuously participated in the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant joint training and conducted on-site response training such as environmental radiation exploration.

Considering these regional characteristics, Ulju-gun has actively participated in various radiation disaster prevention trainings, such as radiation emergency warning training, resident evacuation, and victim relief center operation training, among nuclear power plant sites and neighboring local governments, and has improved its ability to respond to actual situations.

The 2026 Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant joint training, which will be held on the 10th, includes training to switch and transfer the command system from the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant field command system to the Ulju field command center, assuming a complex disaster situation in which a nuclear power plant accident is added to an earthquake and forest fire disaster, and intensively inspects the radiation disaster response system at a regional level.

Ulju-gun plans to operate a local radiation disaster prevention headquarters according to the training situation, share real-time situations centered on the emergency response organization within the county office, and inspect the response system in each field.

In addition, the digital-based radiological disaster response system will also be inspected, such as sharing accident situations and resident protection measures in real time through video conferences between emergency response organizations, and quickly exchanging disaster information between related organizations using the Emergency Response Information Exchange System (ERIX).

In particular, through this training, we plan to focus on ensuring that information on accidents occurring at nuclear power plants is quickly disseminated to the on-site command system and local government radiation disaster prevention headquarters, and that the responses of each organization, such as resident protection measures, environmental radiation monitoring, and situation management, are organically linked based on this.

He added, "Through the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant joint training, we will carefully inspect the response system needed in actual disaster situations, such as switching to the on-site command system and sharing information between agencies, to further strengthen our radiation disaster prevention capabilities to protect the lives and safety of residents."
