The Berlin prosecutor's office has dropped the investigation into the police officers who killed Abdul Ballut

The Berlin prosecutor's office has stopped investigating two police officers who, during their arrest, killed Abdul Ballut, the main suspect in the attack on a crowd in Berlin, the Bild newspaper reports.

The terrorist attack took place on July 25 in Berlin's Tiergarten park: Ballut drove a minivan into the crowd. A woman was killed and 31 other people were injured. The next day, police shot and killed Ballut while arresting him in the Spandau area. Later, a video was found on his phone where he declares support for the terrorist organization “Islamic State”* (IS*), banned in Russia.

“The prosecutor’s office did not see sufficient grounds to suspect that a crime had been committed against police officers,” the publication says.

Investigators reportedly found the use of firearms against the suspect lawful.

According to them, during the arrest, Ballut rushed with a knife at one of the law enforcement officers. Two partners assessed the situation as mortally dangerous for their colleague and opened fire to kill. Since the attacker continued to resist after the first shot, the police fired twice more.

After this, one of the law enforcement officers tried to provide first aid to the detainee, but resuscitation measures were unsuccessful and Ballut died on the spot.

German law enforcement agencies classify the attack on a crowd in the center of Berlin as a terrorist attack committed for Islamist reasons.
