Cross-Strait calligraphers and painters pen meeting held in Beijing to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the birth of Sun Yat-sen

Calligraphers and painters from both sides of the Taiwan Strait gathered together to use calligraphy and calligraphy to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen and promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture.

At the PEN meeting, Wang Qiang, the ninth chairman of the Beijing Cross-Strait Calligraphers and Painters Association and former dean of the School of Culture and Media of the Central University of Finance and Economics, inscribed the four words "fraternity and great harmony". Calligraphers and painters from both sides of the Taiwan Strait also wrote down their wishes such as "the world is for the common good" and "national rejuvenation" to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen with pen and ink.

At the event site, Pan Shumei, chairman of the Taiwan Chinese Women Calligraphers Association, wrote an inscription for the cross-strait co-created drama "Looking for Taste" that was performed at the 7th National Ethnic Minority Literature and Art Festival. She believes that Mr. Sun Yat-sen’s spirit has inspired the cultural creations of calligraphers and painters on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Dr. Sun Yat-sen emphasized "fraternity" during his lifetime, and artists must have great love and be people-oriented in their hearts, otherwise it will be difficult to create good works.

Pan Shumei believes that there are certain differences in the details of the creative styles of calligraphy and painting across the Taiwan Strait. Taiwanese calligraphy and painting works place more emphasis on traditional aesthetics and basic skills, while mainland calligraphy and painting works place more emphasis on the author's personality and agility. But all those who love calligraphy and painting have the same aesthetic value and a high degree of recognition of the excellent traditional Chinese culture. "It is better to have fun alone than to have fun together. Instead of working behind closed doors, it is better to learn through exchanges, learn from each other and appreciate each other, so that everyone can improve together." Pan Shumei said.

In addition to calligraphers and painters from both sides of the Taiwan Strait who came to the scene, many famous calligraphers also inscribed works for the event. Among them, Su Shishu, a librarian of the Central Research Institute of Literature and History and honorary chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, wrote "Nine states share the same beautiful rivers and mountains, and both sides of the Taiwan Strait share the same blood and flesh and blood." These works were presented to the Ethnic Culture Palace, which provided the venue for the event, by Huo Guangfeng, director of the Beijing Taiwan Affairs Office, and received by Shao Bin, deputy director of the Ethnic Culture Palace.
