The 10-day "Fifth Taiwan Film Festival in São Paulo, Brazil: Doctors See the World with Kindness" concluded successfully this week at the São Paulo Cultural Center. From holding an opening ceremony with the Grand Theater of the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo, to continuously screening 10 Taiwanese films in the cinema hall of the São Paulo Cultural Center, it attracted the attention of São Paulo academics and mainstream arts and cultural institutions, and also attracted the participation of consuls from many countries in São Paulo to watch the film, taking a step forward in cultural exchanges and soft diplomacy between Taiwan and Pakistan.
The 5th Taiwan Film Festival in São Paulo, Brazil, organized by the Art and Culture Exchange Association of Taiwan and Brazil (ATBICA) in cooperation with the Hospital Affiliated to the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (HCFMUSP), takes "Doctors See the World with Kindness" as the theme, planning "Medical Film Festival (Medical Body)" and "Love the World" The two major units of "World Film Festival (Medical Heart)", with human care and environmental protection as the core, will screen 10 Taiwanese films and documentaries continuously from August 31 to September 10 at the School of Medicine and the Sao Paulo Cultural Center (CCSP), the largest comprehensive cultural exhibition unit owned by the Sao Paulo City Government.
The opening ceremony held the South American premiere of "Guarding Our Planet" at the Grand Theater of the Medical College, and invited director Shu Menglan to share the filming process on the spot. In addition to Zhu Yijing, Director of the Cultural Office in Sao Paulo, the consuls general of Paraguay and Japan in Sao Paulo, and the honorary consul of the Republic of Moldova also attended the opening ceremony. South Korean Consul Zhao Chongxun also made a special trip to CCSP on the 6th to watch "52Hz, I love you!" directed by Wei Desheng, and expressed high praise for this unique Taiwanese musical film.
CCSP is the largest comprehensive cultural performance venue owned by the Sao Paulo City Government. It is located next to a popular subway station and many cultural and educational institutions. It has a large flow of people on weekdays. This year's Taiwan Film Festival attracted many Brazilians and second- and third-generation overseas Chinese who rarely participate in overseas community activities to watch the film. The audience feedback was excellent. Anna He, an overseas Chinese who watched three films related to the original choir in succession: "Hear the Song Sing Again", "Kulumaha Come Home! Original Sound" and "See Taiwan", said that these films moved her very much, especially since she and her family rarely participate in overseas community activities. This time, through the CCSP Taiwan Film Festival, I had the opportunity to see so many films from my hometown. I am very grateful to the organizers for their efforts. I hope that more Taiwan-related activities, including book fairs, film festivals and various cultural performances, will be held here in the future.
Zhu Yijing, director of the Taipei Cultural Affairs Office in Sao Paulo, also went to CCSP on the 9th and was received by CCSP Director José Mauro Gnaspini. Together with the public, they watched "Seeing Taiwan", which is highly environmentally conscious and representative of Taiwan's beautiful scenery. Before the screening of the film, there was a special screening of a congratulatory video filmed by Wan Guanli, CEO of the "Seeing Zeppelin Foundation" for the film festival. Mentioning the ongoing project of "Seeing Taiwan 3", Zhu Yijing said that "Seeing Taiwan" will bring the magnificence and care of Taiwanese land to Brazil. She is very much looking forward to "Seeing Taiwan 3" being presented in Brazil in the future, and continuing to shock and inspire local audiences.
José Mauro Gnaspini spoke highly of the Taiwan Film Exhibition at the center. He pointed out that CCSP, as an open public space opened simultaneously with the subway, has long been committed to providing a diverse international cultural exchange platform. He believes that Taiwanese film and television works have unique collective issues and deep concerns, which not only enrich the horizons of Brazilian audiences, but also open up new opportunities for bilateral cultural cooperation. He is willing to continue to be a bridge for cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Brazil in the future.
You Zhengcai, director of the Sao Paulo Overseas Chinese Education Center, also entrusted a representative of the Taiwan-Pakistan Art and Culture Exchange Association to present a Taiwan Black Bear Sports cheering towel specially made by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Council to Genspini. He looked forward to more exchange and cooperation opportunities between Taiwan and Pakistan’s bilateral cultural centers in the future.
