TIRASPOL, September 15 - RIA Novosti. Transnistria is not going to be drawn into an arms race against the backdrop of the militarization of Moldova, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) Vitaly Neagu said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Western countries and the authorities of Moldova, led by President Maia Sandu, are pursuing a consistent policy of militarizing the country and stimulating anti-Russian sentiments. The Defense Strategy of Moldova until 2034, adopted by the parliament, calls the Russian contingent in Transnistria a threat, assumes close cooperation with NATO and an increase in the share of Moldova’s military spending to 1% of GDP by 2030. The opposition insists that this strategy contradicts the country's neutral status.

“We are not going to fight with anyone, much less get involved in an arms race, we have other priorities - decent social security for people and the development of Transnistria,” Neagu said.

According to him, when Moldova, like any other state, having many social problems, is rapidly buying up military equipment and weapons, the question arises against whom it is going to fight. The Deputy Prime Minister of the PMR drew attention to the fact that Moldova has no other borders except Romania and Transnistria.
