This year's No. 19 typhoon "Red Sandalwood" will swirl in the Beibu Gulf, and there will be heavy rainfall in the western half of Hainan Island

China News Service, Haikou, August 22 (Yunbei Wu Chunwa) The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Observatory forecasted on the 22nd that this year’s No. 19 Typhoon "Zitan" will swirl in the Beibu Gulf and slowly increase in intensity; heavy rainfall is expected in the western half of Hainan Island from the 23rd to the 24th.

Meteorological monitoring shows that at 13:00 on the 22nd, the center of "Red Sandalwood" (tropical storm level) is located on the Beibu Gulf sea about 40 kilometers south-east of Dongxing City, Guangxi (21.2 degrees north latitude, 108.1 degrees east longitude). The maximum wind force near the center is level 8 (18 meters/second); it is expected to spin around the sea surface of Beibu Gulf and gradually increase in intensity.

Affected by "Red Sandalwood", moderate to heavy rains and local heavy rains occurred in the southwest of Hainan Island from 08:00 on August 21 to 08:00 on August 22, and scattered showers occurred in other areas.

The meteorological department forecast that on the 22nd, Hainan Island will have mainly cloudy weather, with thundershowers in the western half. From the 23rd to the 24th, there were heavy to heavy rains and local heavy rains in the western half of Hainan Island, while moderate to heavy rains and local heavy rains occurred in the remaining areas.

In addition, in the Qiongzhou Strait from the 22nd to the 24th, the wind force was 5 to 6 levels, the gusts were 7 to 8 levels, and the gusts were 9 levels during thunderstorms.

The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Department reminds: There are still strong gusts in various sea areas of Hainan Province. Passing ships, fishing boats, and offshore operating platforms in the northern waters of the South China Sea need to continue to take wind shelter measures. It is recommended to strengthen the safety management of ships and wading tourism activities in Hong Kong. From the 23rd to the 24th, there were heavy rainstorms in the western half of Hainan Island. It is recommended that relevant departments conduct safety inspections of small and medium-sized reservoirs, roads, and overflow bridges, as well as risk prevention work for urban and rural waterlogging, farmland waterlogging, small and medium-sized river floods, flash floods, and geological disasters.
