Sokcho Seorak Hyanggi, cumulative number of users exceeds 640,000 on 2nd anniversary of opening

(Sokcho = Yonhap News) Reporter Ryu Ho-jun = Sokcho City, Gangwon-do, announced on the 9th that Seorak Hyang-ro, which celebrated its 2nd anniversary, is injecting new vitality into Seorak-dong tourism by exceeding 640,000 cumulative users.

Since opening on July 19, 2024, Seorak Hyanggi has been used by 198,838 people in 2024 and 267,432 people in 2025.

Even this year, 175,616 people visited by the end of last month, and the cumulative number of users reached 641,886.

This year's monthly traffic volume was 35,775 in April, 35,538 in May, and 32,298 in August.

As the number of visitors continues in the spring and summer, Seorak Hyanggi is expanding its position as a new tourist attraction in Seorak-dong.

Seorakhyanggi is a walking path equipped with a skywalk, a suspension bridge, and nighttime lighting.

The city is increasing the length of stay in Seorak-dong by going beyond just appreciating the natural scenery and creating an environment where tourists can walk, stay, and enjoy.

The surrounding tourism environment is also steadily improving.

This year, a rest area was created on an unused site in District B of Seorak-dong, and firefly lights, which are popular with tourists, were additionally installed in a 205m section to enhance nighttime attractions.

Through this, we are creating a tourism environment that encompasses day and night and encouraging visitors to stay longer.

The construction of a complex cultural center called ‘Seoraksan Cultural Facility (formerly Red Ginseng Experience Center)’, which will become another axis of Seorak-dong tourism, is also in progress.

The exterior of the building was renovated on June 30th, and the basic and detailed design for creating the interior space is currently in progress.

The city plans to begin construction at the end of this year, complete the interior construction by the first half of next year, and open in the second half of the year.

Mayor Lee Byeong-seon said, “This is a meaningful achievement that shows the possibility that Seorak-dong tourism can take off again.” He added, “We will continue to improve and develop the tourism environment centering on Seorak Hyang-ro to achieve the revival of Seorak-dong tourism.”
