Two people die in apartment fire in Gayang-dong, Seoul… Generation that was criticized for firefighting in the past

While a fire broke out in an apartment in Gayang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, killing two people, it was confirmed that the unit where the fire broke out had been criticized by the fire department in the past for not having a powder fire extinguisher.

According to the self-inspection results and implementation completion report of the apartment complex's firefighting facilities submitted by Rep. Chae Hyun-il of the Democratic Party of Korea on the 18th from the National Fire Agency, a total of 94 households in the complex were pointed out in May last year for 'not providing powder fire extinguishers.'

Among these was the household where a fire broke out on the 11th.

Accordingly, the apartment management office provided smoke masks for fire evacuation and spray fire extinguishers for initial suppression to each household, and the household where the fire broke out received them on May 9 last year.

However, it is known that spray fire extinguishers for initial suppression are simple equipment and have limitations in responding to large fires.

The apartment in question was inspected in November of last year and in May of this year, but there was no record of the unit installing a new powder fire extinguisher.

On the 11th, a mother with brain lesions and her son who lived with her fell to their deaths in an apartment in Gayang-dong that caught fire. They were found dead together in an apartment flower bed.

Fire and police estimates that they jumped to their deaths as the fire spread in the 15th-floor house.
