20 students from Harbin Engineering University were warned and punished by the school for climbing over the wall

Twenty students from the School of Mathematical Sciences of Harbin Engineering University (hereinafter referred to as Harbin Engineering University) in China used VPN to circumvent the wall to connect to foreign networks from the 18th to 19th of this month. They were given warnings by the college. They are undoubtedly a new batch of victims under the governance of China's "Great Internet Wall".

It can be seen from the notice with the official seal of the Harbin Institute of Engineering Mathematics that the college students Zu Xhao, Wang Xyu, Li Xize, Li Xyang, Guan X, Guo Xyang, Liu Xxi; graduate students Mao X, Li Xlong, Hu Xfei, An Xquan, Gong Xwei, Huang Xyu, Li Xcheng, Gao Xlong, Jiang X, Li Ximou, Zhang Xkang, Cai Xjie, Zhao Xting and other 20 people used campus network accounts to circumvent the wall and access overseas networks from September 18 to 19.

The notice pointed out that these 20 students violated national and school regulations on network management. Considering that they were first-time offenders and did not spread harmful information, they were given warnings. If they violate again in the future, they will be dealt with strictly, and the above-mentioned students were asked to reflect deeply.

After Harbin Engineering's disciplinary announcement was forwarded on Weibo by well-known Chinese lawyer Cai Yaqi and others, it was discussed by a large number of netizens. It was once rumored that a girl wanted to be promoted to a graduate school, but was blocked by others, so she angrily reported her classmates for circumventing the wall. As a result, a lot of people were arrested. Later, it was considered unreasonable and might just be a rumor.

However, Chinese netizens revealed that after students are warned and punished by the school, their scholarships or admission to graduate schools for that year will be cancelled, and information about "circuiting the firewall" may be registered in their personal files. If they want to work in public institutions in the future, they may be deleted because of this.
