Coach overturned on A96: two dead and numerous injured

A coach overturned on Autobahn 96 near Buchloe in Ostallgäu. Two people were killed, a police spokesman told the German Press Agency. According to initial information, another person was critically injured and, according to a police spokeswoman, his life is in danger. There are also around 25 slightly injured people, the number could increase.

The serious accident occurred early in the morning, shortly before 6 a.m., on the A96 between the Buchloe-Ost and Landsberg am Lech-West junctions. According to the police spokeswoman, a group of 40 to 50 people, mostly from the Philippines, were traveling by bus. Without the involvement of other vehicles, it then veered off the road to the right, tipped over on the edge of the road and came to rest next to a hollow on the motorway.

A large contingent of rescue workers is on duty. The highway is closed in both directions. The public prosecutor commissioned an expert to clarify what happened to the accident. There was initially no information available about the identities of the dead and injured.

The Swabian town of Buchloe in Ostallgäu is located directly on the federal highway 96 between Munich and Memmingen.

There are always serious accidents with coaches

Accidents involving coaches are always particularly dramatic: recently, five people died in an accident involving a Dutch bus in Switzerland. Three others were seriously injured, seven moderately injured and 30 slightly injured, as the Graubünden cantonal police reported on September 10th. In an accident on the A3 near Wörth an der Donau (Regensburg district) on September 6th, 30 people were injured - 15 of them were in a coach and suffered minor injuries. According to police reports, a car hit the coach and another vehicle in stopped traffic.
