China News Service, Lanzhou, September 23 (Wen Shuyao) From September 19 to 24, the Gansu Division and Resource Extraction Track (Higher Vocational Group, Secondary Vocational Group) competition of the 2026 World Vocational School Skills Competition was held at Lanzhou Vocational and Technical University of Resources and Environment, attracting 290 contestants from vocational schools across the country to compete on the same stage.
Zeng Huahui, deputy director of the Gansu Provincial Department of Education, said that "dazzling youth with skills can create the future" is the value orientation of the reform and development of vocational education in the new era, and is also the era's expectation for the growth of technical and skilled talents; skills competitions are not only a venue for technical skills competition, but also a testing ground for vocational education reform and innovation.
Zeng Huahui said that he hopes that all contestants will stick to their originality, compete with each other, learn from each other, and fully demonstrate the professional qualities of vocational education students in the new era. All participating schools and instructors adhere to the principle of educating people, promote reform through competition, and continue to deepen the joint reform of key elements of vocational education and teaching.
The theme of this year's competition is "Showing Youth with Skills to Create the Future". A total of 181 contestants from 38 vocational school teams from 22 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country competed on the same stage in the higher vocational competition. The contestants were based on the resource mining track, competed in professional skills, learned from each other, and fully demonstrated the excellent professional skills and high spirit of vocational education students in the new era.
A total of 109 contestants participated in the secondary vocational competition. The competition closely followed the core competencies of mine production safety, emergency rescue and intelligent operations, and set up five core competition contents including police dispatch and rescue preparation, life detection and casualty treatment, robot detection and gas measurement, drone rescue, and power restoration. It comprehensively assessed the participating teams' standardized operations, emergency response, teamwork and innovative application capabilities.
Lanzhou Vocational and Technical University of Resources and Environment is a vocational undergraduate institution with a profound historical heritage and distinctive industry characteristics. In recent years, the school has focused on national strategies and regional industrial layout, and built 12 professional groups with distinctive resources and environment characteristics. It was successfully selected as a high-level school construction unit in the second round of the national "Double High Plan" and is striving towards the goal of a first-class vocational university.
